What is Orton-Gillingham?
The Orton-Gillingham (OG) Approach is a direct, explicit, multisensory, and structured method for teaching reading, writing, and spelling—especially effective for individuals with dyslexia or other language-based learning difficulties.
Though originally designed for students with dyslexia, OG-based instruction benefits all learners, as it systematically teaches phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. It’s most often used in one-on-one or small group settings

Core Features
-
Multisensory – Teaches through visual (seeing), auditory (hearing), and kinesthetic/tactile (touching/moving) activities to reinforce learning across different senses.
-
Structured and Sequential – Concepts are introduced in a logical order, from simple to complex, with constant review.
-
Cumulative – Each new lesson builds directly on previously mastered skills.
-
Explicit – Students are directly taught the rules and patterns of English spelling and phonics.
-
Individualized – Instruction is tailored to each learner’s pace and needs.
